Chapter Seven

“I have declined Linc’s offer to be co-partners in this new club.”

Many of the members around the table were shocked at Stone’s announcement. Burke looked at Killian and shrugged his shoulders. Burke thought since everyone had voted unanimously at the last club meeting that it was a done deal. If he knew his president, there was something disturbing that had altered his decision.

Stone’s hands waved at them to quiet down. “Now before you all ask any questions, let me finish. Someone who I am friends with who’s not in the club notified me of something that I should be made aware of about Linc’s new club when they found out that we were thinking of partnering up with him. It seems Linc has a big shipment coming in within the next week or so of ‘fresh meat’—or so Linc calls his new women who will be working for him. I have heard rumors that he has been involved with human trafficking a time or two before, but my sources tell me that Linc has been taking women against their will and forcing them to work for him in exchange for help with their families to get out of their country or to help provide money to send their loved ones.”

“Shit.”

“What the fuck.”

“What a piece of shit that mother fucker is.”

Burke had a few choice words for Linc as well. There was no excuse for taking women against their will in exchange for care or even freedom of their family.

“I am promised he never abuses them, but after I heard what he promises these poor women once they’ve sold their soul to the devil... I can’t invest money in something I am against. So without even consulting with you all, I made the call to Linc an hour ago and told him we weren’t interested. He wasn’t happy and told me I was making a huge mistake.” Stone shook his head in disgust. “A long time ago I wouldn’t have probably cared so much, but I can’t say if it’s because of Zoey or what Jace told me earlier... I have a heart and I won’t have my club be any part of something like that. Linc assures me it’s a false accusation. But what Linc doesn’t know is my source is also a cop who has been following Linc since the first time he fucked up. He has numerous human trafficking felonies that they just can’t nail him for. I’m not about to have our club under the gun along with Linc.”

Burke sat up straight in his chair. “So do we need to watch our backs now? Will Linc try and get vengeance on our club for rejecting his offer?” He was worried that Linc would try and go after the members and maybe even their loved ones if he was angry enough. He sure the fuck didn’t want his Brittany in the crossfire.

Killian turned and looked at him. He knew what Burke was asking.

Stone took a deep breath before he answered Burke’s concerns.
